Each year, March 31st is World Backup Day, a day for people to learn about the increasing role of data in our lives and the importance of regular backups. This independent initiative to raise awareness about backups and data preservation started out – like most good things on the internet – on reddit by a couple of concerned users.
Here at Quentin James Design, we take data backup and WordPress Backup seriously. We employ onsite and offsite backups, cloud storage and hourly ‘Time Machine‘ backups of our primary systems. We also take regular, encrypted backups of our iPhones and iPads in case of theft, damage or loss. We have disaster recovery plans in place for every possible data loss eventuality.
We backup all of our own data, files, music, movies and photos, plus any current and recent data and electronic files we hold on behalf of clients or files associated with client projects. So if we have designed a logo, letterhead or brochure for a client, that data is safe, with multiple copies, all stored securely.
But we don’t backup all client projects once delivered – we don’t automatically backup live client websites.
When we hand over a bespoke WordPress website design to a client, that new WordPress website lives on the client’s (or their Hosting Provider’s) server in a data centre, often out of our direct control. Whilst many website designers and web developers consider their data backup responsibilities complete, we take a different view.
In order to keep our clients WordPress websites in tip-top condition, safe from hackers, malware and data loss, we offer a WordPress Management Service. As part of our monthly WordPress Management Service, we take regular backups of the entire website. In the event of the website being compromised by hackers, or a catastrophic data centre failure, we hold a copy of site, databases and all, ready to be re-deployed at a moments notice.
Take the pledge and tell your friends to back up their data. Go to worldbackupday.com for more information. If you’d like more information about our WordPress Management Service, please feel free to get in touch.
