Following the formation of PPB Limited in 2015, the board of directors wanted to unify their brand identity and needed a new logo design for the new company. Overnight, PPB Limited became one of UK’s leading paper and board merchants for the screen print, large format litho print and digital display markets.
The senior management team at PPB, made up of directors from the three constituent businesses, namely Proctors Paper, Buchanan Paper & Board and A&R Board Sales, invited Quentin James to meet with them at their head office in Leeds. Working with the PPB senior management team and specialist consultant Ann Gronback from Solus PR, Quentin James Design helped to draft a design brief and re-branding strategy.
With so many voices and opinions within the senior management team at PPB, we began work on the new logo design by creating as many outline concepts as possible. These initial ideas were drafted in black and white only, so as to omit any discussion of colours at this very early stage. The team at PPB offered their feedback on the new logo design concepts and revisions were made to some of the preferred options and further new designs were added into the mix. Once a clear design path began to emerge we added colours to their chosen options, refining and exploring many, many colour palettes until finally, the new logo design was agreed upon.
The new logo design for PPB Limited is a bespoke, lowercase ‘ppb’ which has visual echoes of the printing process with its large ink rollers, rolls of paper and continuous feed. It works in mono and colour, standalone and within a circular container. The senior management team at PPB finally settled on a cyan blue roundel and warm, slate grey colour palette for the new logo design and branding.
The new business card designs were printed full colour, both sides on a high specification 450gsm silk board and then matt laminated both sides, adding a high quality, tactile feel and durability. The common face of the business cards simply displays the logo with the company motto, ‘Service on Display’ with the reverse of the business cards being personalised for each member of staff.
The new PPB Limited letterhead design and ‘with compliments’ slips were printed in colour on a crisp, white 120gsm laser compatible bond.
