In 2013 the Granite City Rally organisers asked us to create a new rally logo design and website design for their event. The design and website development work had to be completed on a tight timescale in time for the 2013 event. The new website design needed to be user friendly and easy for the organising committee to maintain and update in-house. This would negate the need for extensive ongoing support and associated costs. We recommended that the website be built on the world’s most popular content management system – WordPress.
Our inspiration for the rally logo design, we drew on the history of the main organising club, Aberdeen and District Motor Club. One element of their club logo is a castle turret motif which we used as a substitute for the ‘A’ in ‘GRANITE’. This design feature helps tie the rally to the organising club, whilst also creating a strong, unique identity for the rally.
To identify the logo as being unique to the sport of rallying, we incorporated the classic rally plate shape into the design and overall strategy. The new rally logo design was then applied to the new Granite City Rally website design which we created alongside the new branding.
Both the logo design and website design can easily be adapted and adjusted for future events. This flexibility helped to maximise the project budget and the longevity of the work.
The flexible rally plate logo design was used by the organisers on all the event paperwork and documentation. It was also prominent on the start/finish ramp and each rally car carried the rally plate. We completed the project on time and on budget, despite a very short lead time. All of the client training for the new WordPress website content management system was provided several weeks before the rally took place.
