History Of The Mazda MX-5 Infographic Design

Following the success of our Honda Type-R Infographic Design, digital marketing agency Digitaloft asked us to work on another car related infographic. This time, the infographic was to chart the history of the iconic Mazda MX-5 sports car and was for their client Jennings Motor Group. Our founder and lead designer Quentin ran a second generation Mazda MX-5 a few years ago and relished the opportunity to create a fresh, informative piece of content for Jennings Motor Group. Quentin commented: “We owned a second generation MX-5 for a number of years, so this is one sports car that I’m really familiar with. It was a surprisingly practical, reliable and fun sports car.”

Once again, Digitaloft supplied the content for the infographic, having extensively researched the history of each generation of the Mazda MX-5 model. The MX-5 is still the highest selling two seater sports car in history and the performance statistics in the infographic help chart the evolution of the MX-5 since it’s initial release in 1989.

“We owned a second generation MX-5 for a number of years, so this is one sports car that I’m really familiar with. It was a surprisingly practical, reliable and fun sports car.”

The brand new fourth generation 2016 Mazda MX-5 is the pinnacle of the model’s development. It retains the familiar front engine, rear drive format and this has helped the car retain it’s crown as the best value for money two seater sports car on the market. The new model has sharper looks, more power and improved handling.

For the design of the infographic we drew upon the branding for both the manufacturer and the dealer, Jennings Motor Group. Our solution for the design was to create a simple format suitable for clearly displaying the vehicle photos and performance statistics for each generation of MX-5. We used alternating shades of grey, sampled from the Mazda UK website, to identify each new generation. The official Mazda corporate blue was then employed as the main accent colour for the design along with the Mazda corporate font, further reinforcing the overall corporate branding of the infographic.

The publication of the infographic was timed to coincide with the release of the all new 2016 fourth generation Mazda MX-5 model.
